I am Chantal and together with my mom and dad I own Meadow Creek Sausage & Meat Ltd. We opened our doors on May 5th, 2011 and it has been an adventure ever since. My dad (Peter) has been working in the meat industry since he was 17 years old, that is 40 years this year. We are originally from the Netherlands and since dad has been in the meat industry for a little while, he has had the opportunity to work in many European countries. For the last 14 years we have been in Canada and dad continued to work in the meat industry here.
So how did Meadow Creek Sausage & Meat Ltd. actually start? Mom and dad were ready to change things and start their own little butchershop as a retirement project. I had just graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a bachelor's degree in marketing and was looking for a challenge. I saw a great opportunity and we decided to join forces and see what the three of us could do together.
Mom keeps the books and takes care of our meat shop at the ranch. Mom is an excellent cook and dad is always talking about meat and his favorite hobby, spice mixes. As he has spent time working in so many places in Europe, most of our sausages are made from traditional European recipes. As we have also spent a few years in Canada, the remaining recipes are North American recipes.
Our slogan is "Simply Sausage." Let me explain why...
One of the most interesting things dad always says is that "you have to be a pharmacist to understand the food labels!" and he is right. We are different from anyone else in the meat industry because of our recipes, spice mixes and the quality/type of meat that we use. We are one of the few, if not the only, sausage plant that prepares our own spice mixes. We do not use premixed spices and when you visit our store, you will see our spice rack proudly displayed.
Sausages and burgers should be nothing else but sea salt, spices and the best meat you can buy. Lets keep it simple! Because our operational costs are low we can keep our sales prices low. So to all our customers we say: The best meat for the lowest prices. Just simply sausage!
